Lifeguarding
This comprehensive course equips participants with the essential skills and knowledge to prevent, recognize, and respond to aquatic emergencies, as well as administer care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries, and sudden illnesses until emergency medical services arrive. The course covers lifeguard training, which includes water rescue techniques, surveillance skills, and how to handle aquatic emergencies. Participants will also learn CPR for adults, children, and infants, which includes chest compressions, rescue breaths, and the use of barrier devices. Additionally, instruction is provided on the proper use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED) to treat sudden cardiac arrest. The course also includes First Aid training, which covers managing wounds, fractures, burns, and other medical emergencies. Upon successful completion, participants will receive a 2-year certification in Lifeguarding, CPR/AED, and First Aid, recognized by the American Red Cross. This certification prepares individuals for lifeguard roles at pools, waterparks, and other aquatic facilities, ensuring the safety of swimmers and patrons. Ideal for those looking to work as a lifeguard or anyone wanting to be prepared for emergencies, this course will be 8 hours of online course work and classroom learning locaated at the YMCA located at 1521 Green St. Oskaloosa, IA 52577. In-water training will be completed at the YMCA located at 414 N 3rd St. Oskaloosa, IA 52577.
